modular screen
WHAT IS IT?:
As a part of MIT’s How to Design Class (4.021), one project was to design and construct a module that could be aggregated into a screen. The modules considered factors such as orientation, lighting, and combination methods.
ROLE:
I ideated design concepts for a modular component that would explore the way light filters through the screen, as well as an innovative way to aggregate each module together without the use of adhesives.
I designed a template using Rhino, which I laser cut and used as a template to wire cut my physical module from. Then, I assembled a prototype of 3 modules using the offset sliding mechanism I developed.
Using Rhino, I simulated the effect of reorientation and light filtering through the screen assembled by my modules.
SKILLS:
Laser cutting
Rhino
2D and 3D modeling
screen assembly 1 in rhino; lighting filter demo
screen model 2, reorientation
